Today marks International Women's Day -- an annual celebration that highlights their economic, political and social achievements. It’s even an official holiday in China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, among other places.

"International Women's Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men," according to the United Nations.

May every day be a day that we celebrate our own achievements and others’ as well, and keep the doors open so that the future for girls is bright and equal.
