The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a request for information seeking input from the public on the research, development, and deployment of offshore wind demonstration projects. The DOE’s Wind Program is planning an R&D program to stimulate responsible, cost-effective offshore wind energy deployment in coastal and Great Lakes regions of the U.S. Activities under this program would encompass the following focus areas: Advanced technology demonstration projects that further the industry knowledge base for the benefit of all stakeholders.Research addressing market barriers in order to facilitate deployment and reduce technical challenges facing the entire industry.Technology research and development that will reduce the cost of offshore wind energy through innovation and testing.

Under this information request, the DOE is looking for additional information specific to advanced technology demonstration projects. It is anticipated that these activities will be carried out through collaborative partnerships with a range of eligible organizations. Strong emphasis will be placed on leveraging the activities of complementary programs, resources and funding opportunities. Of particular interest is information that would assist the program in targeting its resources on activities with the highest potential for positive impact to the benefit of all stakeholders, including the growth of the national knowledge base.
