Henkel’s Düsseldorf, Germany, headquarters.
Henkel AG & Co. KGaA receives Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence of the Year Award

The 2009 Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence of the Year Award in the field of adhesives for mobile electronics was presented to Henkel AG & Co. KGaA in recognition of the company’s development of the Loctite® halogen-free range of products. These products are primarily methacrylate (MMA) structural adhesives that have been designed for numerous bonding applications, and are based on the development of a green technology platform.

“The Loctite halogen-free range of products has created new opportunities in the mobile electronics market while leading to the unique creation of environment-friendly adhesives that can be utilized for multiple applications,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Rajaram Vijayan. “The green technology platform involved in the formulations has supported adherence to stringent environmental regulations in the adhesives domain by maintaining a total bromine and chlorine content of less than 1,500 parts per million.”

The environmentally friendly, halogen-free Loctite products also include cyanoacrylates, light-cure cyanoacrylates, epoxies, urethanes, UV acrylics, silicones, hot melts, two-part acrylics, and anaerobics for different applications. These products could be used for multiple bonding applications on metals, plastics, composites and glass. For example, this product range has been used widely in the industry to bond, seal and assemble a range of components, including mobile phone cases, cameras, connectors, keypads, microphones, speakers, trim, emblems, frames, screens, magnets, latches, and batteries.

“Henkel Group leverages its expertise in the adhesive business by investing a substantial portion of its revenues in an outstanding research and development program while employing unique growth strategies that are directly aligned with market needs, end applications, and the high-end performance market,” Vijayan said. “Together, these factors have helped Henkel in developing high-quality, innovative and environment-friendly solutions for various industries.”

The Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence Award in Product Innovation is presented to a company that has demonstrated unique product design and development initiatives, and that is aligned with a sustainable and environmentally conscious objective within its industry sector. This award signifies the company’s identification of a unique and revolutionary solution with significant environmental benefits, while simultaneously presenting tremendous market potential. Moreover, the award also signifies that the company’s overall business strategy is sound and poised for success.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
