ASI would like to wish a happy Canada Day to our neighbors to the north – or, for those of us in the metro Detroit area, the south.

 

Canada Day celebrates the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act of 1867, which united Canada as a single country of four provinces.

 

Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as internationally. Communities across the country and world will come together to host organized celebrations for Canada Day, which can include such as parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, air and maritime shows, fireworks, and free musical concerts. In addition, citizenship ceremonies will take place for new Canadian citizens.

 

July 1 is also Moving Day in Quebec. Many apartment rentals in the province are leased from July 1 to June 30 of the following year, so frequently Quebecians are occupied by moving to new apartments – rather than celebrating Canada Day.
