Subscribers to ASI’s E-Newsletter may have noticed the addition of a weekly survey to the news features section. Here we present the results of the June 30th survey.

The energy overhaul bill has passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is currently before the U.S. Senate. It is predicted by some that, if passed and implemented, this bill will have the effect of "devastating the country's battered industrial base while pushing polluting industries to countries with lower environmental standards." John Boehner, R-Ohio, says, "This is the biggest job-killing bill that has ever been on the floor of the House of Representatives." Do you agree with these assessments?

Yes: 79.52%
No: 20.48%

Do you think the bill will pass the Senate?

Yes: 52.44%
No: 47.56%

Comments:

”This Energy bill will be one of the worst pieces of legislation ever passed by the U.S. government. With little debate and little examination of the actual bill, no one is being properly informed of the ramifications and costs to the average U.S. citizen. Manufacturing has been leaving the U.S. at an ever-quickening pace. This bill will ensure that jobs and manufacturing plants never return to this country.”

“If the government raises the price of fuel for cars and homes, people will use less and help the (supposed) environmental issues, but lower the profit for the energy and oil companies. In turn, these companies will raise prices again, and we will be trapped in a scenario like Europe with high fuel and energy costs that will surely kill U.S. manufacturing. Pretty short-sighted from our leaders.”

“Elected officials who have free health care and a lifetime retirement plan funded by taxpayers have lost touch with the people who have to earn a living.”

“The representatives that voted for this despicable legislation have proved to me that they all deserve immediate impeachment, and possible prosecution for incompetence while in office.”
