3M TO SELL ST. PAUL PROPERTIES
3M Co., Maplewood, MN, has announced that it will sell 34 acres of “underutilized” land and buildings on the east side of St. Paul that it has owned for decades. Under 3M’s plan, the specialty tape plant on the corner of Arcade St. and Reaney Ave. will be closed and its work moved to Knoxville, IA, and Springfield, MO, by mid-2007. The move will displace about 150 of 3M’s workers and divest the company of all but six of the 40 acres that served as its headquarters complex from 1910 to 1962.

HENKEL ACQUIRES LEADING SOLDER SPHERE MANUFACTURER
Henkel, Irvine, CA, has announced the successful acquisition of Tainan, Taiwan-based Accurus Scientific Co. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of solder spheres and type 1 through type 7 solder powders. “The addition of Accurus to our portfolio brings Henkel’s product offerings full circle, enabling us to provide complete materials solutions, which now includes advanced solder sphere technology for next-generation CSP and BGA devices, and specialty solder powder for fine-pitch applications,” said Dr. Jochen Krautter, executive vice president of Henkel Technologies.

HERCULES TO DISTRIBUTE WISDOM ADHESIVES PRODUCTS
Hercules, Wilmington, DE, has announced that its Paper Technologies and Ventures Group will become the exclusive distributor for Wisdom Adhesives products and services for the worldwide pulp and paper industry. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. “We see this as an excellent example of how we can strengthen our core business by moving into adjacent markets that expand our ability to provide new and innovative products to our customers,” said Paul Raymond, president, Hercules Paper Technologies and Ventures. According to Hercules, Wisdom Adhesives will continue with manufacturing activities, and Hercules will manage the marketing, sales, and service of the portfolio of adhesives products. Hercules will initially focus on the Tissue and Towel market segment, and the products will be marketed under the Hercules Dimension brand name.

ICI INVESTS IN SECOND EMULSION POLYMERIZATION FACILITY IN CHINA
Imperial Chemical Industries PLC (ICI), London, England, has started construction on a $20 million emulsion polymerization facility in the Songjiang Industrial Development Zone of Shanghai, China. ICI currently has eight major facilities in China, manufacturing products such as decorative paints, adhesives, specialty starches and electronic materials for the China market and the Asia Pacific region. The new plant will be operated by National Starch, a business of ICI, and will produce for the local market specialty polymers and solution acrylic adhesives for high-end tapes and labels, water treatment, detergent, packaging coatings, and decorative coatings industries.

NORDSON COMPLETES DAGE ACQUISITION
Nordson Corp., Westlake, OH, has announced its acquisition of Dage Holdings Ltd. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed. UK-based Dage manufactures testing and inspection equipment used in semiconductors and printed circuit board assemblies. It employs more than 200 people and had revenue of about $59 million during the 12-month period ending Oct. 31, 2006. Nordson has 3,800 employees worldwide, and direct operations and sales support offices in 30 countries.

NUPLEX RESINS APPOINTS BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Nuplex Resins, Louisville, KY, has announced the appointment of Kelly Smith to the position of business development manager, Waterborne Technologies and New Markets – The Americas. In his new role, Smith is responsible for developing new initiatives and partnerships within the scope of waterborne polymer technologies that find application in coatings, adhesives, sealants, inks, construction, and textile markets. Smith joined Nuplex Resins in 1994 and has held various technical and commercial roles within the business. Prior to his move to the U.S., he was general manager of the Nuplex Resins Foshan (China) operation.

SIKA ACQUIRES PROXAN DICHTSTOFFE GMBH IN GERMANY
Sika AG, Baar, Switzerland, has announced its acquisition of Proxan Dichtstoffe GmbH, Thuringia, Germany, a manufacturer of sealants for the production of insulated glass and for construction joints. Purchase price has not been disclosed. Proxan develops, produces and sells sealants made from polysulfide and two-component polyurethane. The company is staffed by 13 employees. With the acquisition of Proxan, Sika augments its technologies – particularly in sealants – for the production of insulated glass.
