CS HYDE CO. OFFERS NEW HIGH BOND TAPE UHMW High Bond (HB) Tape has all the benefits of strong, slippery, abrasion-resistant UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight) polyethylene tape, plus a super-high bond adhesive. UHMW High Bond is an excellent choice for difficult-to-bond, low-surface-energy surfaces such as powder-coated, plastic, foam, oily metals, and slightly textured. UHMW-HB (#19-HB Series) even sticks to high-slip surfaces like Teflon®, acrylic, PE and more.
CELANESE INTRODUCES ONE-COMPONENT WOOD ADHESIVE FOR OUTDOOR APPLICATIONS Celanese Corp. has announced the commercial launch of a new D4-rated, ready-to-use, PVAc-based wood adhesive that delivers performance in challenging outdoor environments. Mowilith® LDL 1400 W is suitable for window frames and other demanding exterior applications where a high level of heat and water resistance is required. The single-component emulsion is chemically free of formaldehyde and has been shown to emit very low levels of formaldehyde in use.
CHARLES ROSS & SON CO. OFFERS NEW LABORATORY HIGH SHEAR MIXER The new model 400DL high shear mixer is an inline design for use in laboratory and pilot plant development efforts. The 1⅜” diameter rotor is driven by a powerful 1 HP motor at speeds of up to 10,000 rpm. All wetted surfaces are constructed in 316-stainless steel and are finished to suit the needs of the application. This model is also offered with an attached 2.5-gallon mix vessel and a range of stator heads, including the slotted, round hole, fine screen, and Quad (four stage) design. Special seals are available to permit operation in applications to 250 psi.
DOW POLYURETHANES PLANS CAPITAL INVESTMENTS IN EUROPE Dow Polyurethanes, Midland, MI, has announced plans to further invest in Europe by expanding capacity at two of its facilities over the next two years. The company plans to increase nameplate capacity at its polyols plant in Terneuzen, The Netherlands, by 180 kiltons per annum (KTA), and at its propylene glycol (PG) facility in Stade, Germany, by 80 KTA.
I&J FISNAR OFFERS NEW DISPENSING VALVE FOR ANAEROBIC RESINS Anaerobic resins are acrylic base formulations that can be formulated to alter the adhesive strength of a final assembly, providing greater or lower bond strengths. The most common application for anaerobic resin is in the assembly of screws as an alternative to a lock washer. Another application would be for assembling cylinder parts and seals. Two conditions are necessary for polymerization: the absence of air and the presence of metal. For these reasons, the model MV-0180-PNM needle valve has been designed with a low-density plastic wetted chamber, so that the anaerobic resin does not come into contact with the metal body of the valve. Material is fed under pressure to the valve
directly from its packaged container; the container bottle can be placed in an air pressure reservoir, top ported to the valve. An air pulse is delivered from an I&J Fisnar Inc. valve controller that actuates a solenoid attached to the needle seal, allowing the fluid to flow. When the air pulse is removed, a forward action spring returns the needle and closes the seal, shutting off the fluid. For faster and more precise closure, a 4-way air control can be connected to eliminate the reliance on spring pressure.
LOOS & DILWORTH OFFERS NEW GREEN SURFACTANT Loos & Dilworth Inc., Bristol, PA, offers newly developed Atlas G-1205 from CRODA, Inc., a low-foaming, derivative rosin for use in thermoplastic or elastomeric water-based systems to impart strong carboxyl functionality and compatibility with anionic and cationic systems. Stable in both acid and alkaline media, this rosin acid dispersion offers unique properties to the formulator or acts as a wetting agent where non-foaming is critical.
MIXPAC EQUIPMENT OFFERS REFILL STATION FOR DISPENSING SYSTEM MIXPAC Equipment Inc. now offers the DXR refill station for quick and easy refilling of its DX Series dispensing system. The DXR helps to create a versatile and accurate solution for two-component material dispensing. The MIXPAC DX System offers the ability to dispense 1:1, 1.5:1, 2:1, 4:1 and 10:1 ratios for two-component reactive resins. Multiple handheld dispensers can quickly be refilled with one DXR. The DXR refill station utilizes two transfer pumps that feed from five-gallon bulk containers of material, each equipped with follower plates to handle a wide range of viscosities. This lightweight, compact system offers a dispensing solution that is mobile, easy to use and easy
to maintain.
PRES-ON INTRODUCES VERY HIGH BOND TAPE Pres-On now offers OEMs its new PHB3000 translucent acrylic pressure-sensitive tape, designed to provide a uniform high bond between virtually any substrate, including intricate shapes, glass and other clear materials. PHB3000 is ideal for signage, skin-to-frame assembly, furniture and appliances, and is especially effective at attaching auto trim. It is approved by GM, Chrysler and Ford specifications. Able to withstand weathering, moisture and a wide temperature range, the tape will not harden or become brittle with age, so it can be used with confidence to replace mechanical fasteners or welds. In addition, it is highly effective in dampening vibration, sound and shock.
ROLLPRINT OFFERS SEALANT FOR POUCHES THAT USE UNCOATED TYVEK Proprietary Allegro® T sealant from Rollprint Packaging Products, Inc. offers a high-performance, cost-effective way to seal to uncoated Tyvek®
yet retain the features of a coated product. Allego T technology provides an ideal solution for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers looking to achieve fiber-free peels, consistent seal strength and minimize costs for chevron pouches. Polyester/polyethylene, the traditional default material for chevron pouches that utilize an uncoated Tyvek, provides challenges when trying to ensure consistenly clean peels. Further, polyester/polyethylene has a narrow (approximately 10°F) operating window with inconsistent seal strength. Achieving seal strength targets is further complicated by the fact that the seal strength is directly proportional to the thickness of the Tyvek.
