Composites Rule Recognizes Pollution Prevention With UV/EB

CHEVY CHASE, Md. -- In response to industry concerns about mandated pollution control measures, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) in Southern California has recognized ultraviolet (UV) and electron beam (EB) technologies as options in complying with stringent air-emission regulations.

The proposed new emission limits were seen as difficult, and perhaps impossible, to achieve using traditional methods and too restrictive to allow for the use of pollution-prevention strategies, like UV and EB. In recognition of the role technology can play to improve our environment, the final SCAQMD ruling includes the use of UV and EB as compliance options, stating: "UV and EB curing are considered near-zero or zero-emission resins."
