The Specialty Synthetic Polymers Div. of National Starch and Chemical Co., Bridgewater, N.J., has developed RESYN® X-208 emulsion to help formulators develop water-resistant adhesives for woodworking applications, including hardwood and plywood composites. This self-crosslinking, vinyl acetate copolymer exhibits excellent stability throughout mechanical operations and through freeze-thaw cycles. It features a 51%-solids composition, a viscosity of 5,500 cps and a pH level of 4.5. The product’s typical film properties include a Tg of 30ºC, good water resistance and a heat-seal temperature range of 210ºF to 220ºF.
