Adhesives & Sealants Headlines

The Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC) has named Elizabeth P. Lofton, Ph.D., Rohm and Haas Co., recipient of its coveted 2004 Carl Dahlquist Award. The Pressure Sensitive Tape Council presents the Dahlquist Award to one speaker at each annual technical conference who, following the evaluation of a panel of judges, demonstrates the very best in research relating to adhesive tape technology. The selection covers a range of criteria, concentrating on originality and scientific contribution, but also including presentation and quality of visuals. Lofton presented "Clay/Polymer Nanocomposites for Pressure Sensitive Adhesives" at PSTC's fifth global conference, TECH XXVII, May 12-14, in Orlando. It was one of 28 papers presented during the technical seminar component of PSTC's full Week of Learning, which attracted more than 500 attendees from 19 countries. Lofton is a senior research chemist in adhesives and sealants research at Rohm and Haas Company in Pennsylvania. Her current areas of expertise are in pressure sensitive adhesives for tape and label applications. She has worked extensively with construction adhesives, dry powder for cement modifiers, formaldehyde-free nonwoven binders, wood glues, epoxy acid crosslinked maintenance coatings, and asphalt emulsions. Lofton holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from MIT.
