According to the latest End-Use Market Survey sponsored by the Alliance for the Polyurethanes Industry (API), demand for polyurethane in the U.S. adhesives market increased by 10 million pounds from 2000 to 2002. Polyurethane applications in sealants experienced similar growth, with a 3 million pound increase in the same period. A technical session devoted to adhesives and sealants at Polyurethanes Conference 2004 will highlight technical advances in the industry and introduce recent innovations. The Conference is scheduled for Oct. 18-20 in Las Vegas. "We're excited about this year's conference program and have worked hard to focus on key segments of the polyurethanes industry," says Dick Mericle, executive director of API. "While adhesives and sealants may sometimes be viewed as non-traditional applications, they remain growth areas for the industry. The session on adhesives and sealants will feature presentations from scientists at Nippon Polyurethane Industry and Bayer Polymers. The Nippon presentation will discuss characteristics and applications of HDI allophanates, while Bayer's paper will present findings on tack measurement of polyurethane adhesives.
