The American Chemistry Council (ACC), an association of the nation’s leading chemical companies, selected Bayer Corp., Pittsburgh, to receive ACC’s Responsible Care Leadership Award for 2002. The award was presented to Bayer Corp.’s President and CEO Dr. Attila Molnar at the ACC’s Leadership Conference in Houston, October 28, 2002.

Responsible Care is the chemical industry’s health, safety and environmental performance-improvement initiative. Since its launch in 1988, Responsible Care has been recognized as one of the most successful environmental, health and safety initiatives by industry anywhere.

“Performance through people is the basis for our success as we build the New Bayer. Sustained commitment to our common values and enhancement of global programs like Responsible Care and Sustainable Development are just a few examples that exemplify that spirit,” said Dr. Molnar. “The global Bayer organization embraces Responsible Care and is committed to ensuring that our expertise continues to bring extraordinary benefits to our employees, our customers, our suppliers, our shareholders and society at large.”

The Responsible Care Leadership Award is given annually to the company that demonstrates the highest degree of excellence in implementing the ACC’s Responsible Care Codes.
