The Surface Mount Technology Association recently opened a new chapter in Costa Rica and held its first chapter meeting that included a technical conference on August 13. Held at the Costa Rica Investment Board in La Uruca San Jose, the conference featured Alan Lewis, Asymtek's director of applications engineering, as the speaker. Lewis presented the latest in automated dispensing technology for board level electronics assembly and packaging. Costa Rica is among the top leading exporters of hi-tech products, including electronic components, medical devices, specialized services and many other goods and services. "As part of our vision in SMTA Costa Rica, we want to contribute with our country's effort to be recognized as the best solution for electronics design and manufacturing in Latin America and the world," explained Omar Mora, SMTA Costa Rica's chapter president. "We are very pleased to work with Asymtek to bring SMTA's benefits to Costa Rica. Their outstanding support in this initial forum represents just the beginning of a very successful venture."
