The Ohio Soybean Council Foundation (OSCF) recently awarded the first ever Bhima Vijayendran Scholarship of $5,000 to Julia Faeth of New Riegel, OH. This was made possible thanks to a $50,000 grant from Battelle to establish an annual scholarship for an outstanding undergraduate student interested in pursuing a career in agricultural science and technology. It is named in honor of Dr. Bhima Vijayendran, a Battelle researcher who has made significant contributions to the bioproducts and soybean industries.

In addition, the Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) contributed matching funds of $50,000 to create a $100,000 endowment that will ensure that the Bhima Vijayendran Scholarship will be available to students for many years to come.

“Bhima has been a leader in the soy-based bioproducts field, so it was a natural fit when we decided to establish and name a scholarship in honor of him and his work,” said Kirk Merritt, OSCF director of outreach and programs. “We thank Battelle for making this scholarship possible.”

Vijayendran is a recognized authority on specialty chemical and polymer systems for a range of applications.
