The Associated Press is reporting that the Senate has passed the financial overhaul bill. The 2300-page legislation is now on its way to President Obama for his signature.

The legislation was drafted to rein in big banks and to protect American consumers, in the hope of eliminating a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis. Its ultimate impact, however, will be at the hands of the government regulators assigned to implement it.
