AkzoNobel has received contracts to supply coatings for the roof of Brazil’s famous Maracanã Stadium.

AkzoNobel recently announced it has been awarded contracts to supply coatings to the Maracanã Stadium in Brazil, where a major soccer final will take place in 2014. In addition, AkzoNobel said it has secured a contract to paint the mezzanine of the Grêmio Arena located in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

“As a global coatings supplier with a product portfolio broad enough to match the needs of almost any customer, we are positioned to satisfy demanding requirements and specifications,” said Jaap de Jong, AkzoNobel Brazil. “Brazil is one of our key high growth markets and has a pivotal role to play in our strategic agenda. AkzoNobel is therefore fully focused on capturing the opportunities offered by Brazil’s prominent place in the sporting spotlight in the years to come.”

The Maracanã Stadium contract involves the supply of Interseal 670HS protective coatings, while both Interseal 670HS and Interfine 979 will be used at the Grêmio Arena. Both are supplied by AkzoNobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings business.

“This success is encouraging,” Jaap de Jong said. “We believe that there are many additional sporting-related opportunities to capture and are confident that our solutions approach will continue to build strong customer relations that underline the value that our paints and coatings portfolio has to offer.”

Delivering coatings to high-profile sport stadiums is nothing new to AkzoNobel. Many of the venues in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 World Cup in South Africa—including the Bird’s Nest, the Water Cube, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and Soccer City in Johannesburg—were coated using AkzoNobel products.
