This company, a division of Emerald Performance Materials, announces its newest product in the K-FLEX® product platform. K-FLEX 500P is reportedly the lowest VOC coalescent in the product line, designed for architectural coatings where very low VOCs and excellent gloss, scrub, block, and freeze-thaw characteristics are all desired features. K-FLEX dibenzoate esters are reportedly highly effective, low VOC, non-phthalate, non-alkyl phenol ethoxylate (APE-free), and are compatible with a range of polymers, including acrylic, styrene acrylic, vinyl acetate (PVA), vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) systems.

K-FLEX 500P reportedly has a VOC level of 0.9% when tested according to ASTM D 2369.  The new product can exhibit equivalent efficiency to traditional high-VOC coalescents, such as 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate (TMPDMIB), so it can be used at similar levels in the formulation.
