The Pressure Sensitive Tape Council’s Tape Summit 2013 will be held May 13-17 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, La. Industry professionalsPSTC New Orleans will benefit from a variety of focused learning opportunities, including Tape University, TECH 36, and the Exhibitor and Technical Poster events.

Tape University

Tape University will be comprised of two levels of pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) education. Depending on their current level of expertise, visitors can choose to attend the Fundamentals of PSA Tape course on May 14 or Adhesives and Advanced Technologies of PSA Tape on May 13 and 14.

The Fundamentals class will serve as a primer into the industry for beginners and will review basic concepts of PSA tape technology. Attendees who are interested in a more technical discussion may prefer the Adhesives and Advanced Technologies class. This class will cover detailed polymer technologies, chemistries, and scientific knowledge surrounding PSA tapes. The advanced class will also cover breakthrough manufacturing processes and techniques.

TECH 36

TECH 36, PSTC’s three-day technical seminar, has been informing tape professionals about cutting-edge PSA technologies for the past 36 years. In 2013, the TECH 36 event will be held May 15-17 and will include more than 25 presentations on topics ranging from technical processes to environmental issues and more.

These sessions will include “Use of Dibenzoate Plasticizers in Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives” by William D. Arendt, Emily McBride and Rebecca Hanes at Emerald Kalama Chemical, LLC; “Transposable Adhesives: Acrylic Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives with Reactive Components” by Kyle Heimbach, Polymer Research and Development at Avery Dennison; “Design of Acrylic Emulsion Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives for Removable Applications” by Andrew LaChapell, product development chemist at Momentive Specialty Chemicals; and much more.

Exhibitor Showcase and Poster Sessions

On May 15, PSTC will host the exhibitor showcase and technical poster sessions. These events will run simultaneously to promote the latest industry ideas and technologies. Presenters will include pressure-sensitive tape companies, academic professionals, government researchers, TECH 36 speakers and students. One travel award of $1,000 (to be used for travel and hotel expenses for TECH 36) will be given to the student with the most outstanding poster concept.

Other Events

The PSTC Board Meeting will be held May 13 before an informal reception and the Spring Membership Dinner. On May 14, another informal reception will precede the PSTC Board Dinner with member supplier delegates.
