The American Chemistry Council (ACC) recently announced that Celanese Chairman and CEO Mark C. Rohr will become the council’s newest board officer, effective January 1, 2014.

“Common-sense, science-driven chemical management reform that protects public health, promotes innovation, and spurs economic growth remains ACC’s highest priority,” said Cal Dooley, president and CEO of the ACC. “As chairman and CEO of Celanese, Mark Rohr represents one of the world’s most highly diversified chemical products companies serving a broad range of end use markets. He knows first-hand the importance of a regulatory framework that bolsters the confidence of our value chain that our products are safe for their intended use. His insight, experience and leadership will help to ensure ACC’s continued success as we pursue comprehensive reform of the Toxic Substances Control Act.”

Following formal approval by the board of directors, Rohr will first assume the role of vice chairman of the board and chair of the council’s Board Finance, Audit, and Membership Committee. He’ll serve in this capacity for one year, followed by a one-year term each as chairman of the Executive Committee and chairman of the board.

Rohr was first elected to the ACC’s board of directors in January 2005, representing Albemarle Corp. He has served as a member of the Board Finance, Audit and Membership Committee; the Board Committee on Responsible Care®; the Board Global Strategy Committee, and the Executive Committee. Rohr currently chairs the Board Chemical Management Committee.
