Manufacturing sites owned and operated by Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. and Momentive Performance Materials Inc. recently received certification under the Responsible Care® Management System (RCMS). The sites reportedly underwent independent audits to determine conformance with environmental, health and safety standards under the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care program.

“More than a year ago, Momentive set a goal to achieve RCMS certification for six of our manufacturing sites and our headquarters location,” said Craig Morrison, chairman and CEO of Momentive. “We reached our goal. The independent assessment of our sites confirms that our efforts and commitment to continually improve the environmental, health, safety and security performance of our facilities is moving in the right direction.”

“The certification process is exacting and thorough,” said Karen Koster, executive vice president, Momentive Environmental Health and Safety. “Sites were required to share environmental metrics, such as emissions and permit compliance, and show how they are improving performance. Also, the safety processes and incidents were reviewed for effectiveness, and each site was audited for its community outreach and emergency response initiatives.”

The Responsible Care audit focused on manufacturing sites located in Louisville, Ky.; Sistersville, W.Va.; Garrett, Ind.; Hope, Ark.; Missoula, Mont.; and Deer Park, Texas. The company’s headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, was also reviewed and received certification. At each site, an independent auditor interviewed personnel, reviewed on-the-floor processes and checked documents for accuracy and regulatory compliance. Each of the sites received reports from the auditing firm regarding best practices that were recorded from ongoing activities.
