Mettler Toledo recently announced it will present a free webinar on oxidation induction time (OIT) on April 30. The event will discuss the different methods used to investigate the oxidation behavior of materials and present some interesting applications.

The determination of OIT and the oxidation onset temperature (OOT) are standard procedures frequently used to rapidly compare and assess the oxidative stability of materials. The same methods can be used to study aging processes and the effectiveness of stabilizers. The use of higher pressures suppresses the vaporization of volatile components, increases the rate of oxidation and shortens measurement times. Many organic compounds are attacked by oxygen and undergo oxidation reactions even at low temperatures. Materials and substances such as plastics, greases, oils and fats can be investigated by thermal analysis techniques.
