Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. and Momentive Performance Materials Inc. recently announced the joint publication of the “Sustainability: 2013” sustainability report. Momentive Releases Sustainability ReportThe report highlights a number of operational and environmental improvements as a result of Momentive’s sustainability initiatives. For example, the number of environmental incidents decreased by 29% in 2013 compared to 2012 and fell by 79% from 2007 to 2013, which is reportedly the lowest level since being tracked. In addition, greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity, which is defined as the amount of carbon dioxide equivalent GHG emitted to produce a specific product, has improved in three out of the last four years; overall GHG emissions have been reduced by 3.7% since 2010.

The report focuses on three areas of sustainability: operational excellence, product innovation and corporate responsibility. It reportedly provides insight into Momentive’s community involvement and provides metrics surrounding greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, waste intensity, water usage, and safety.
