BYK-1640 is a new polymer-based, VOC- and silicone-free defoamer for aqueous systems. The additive is also reportedly suitable for some applications that come into direct contact with food.

BYK-1640 is an alternative to mineral oil-based defoamers. The mineral oil- (and hence emission-free) neutral-odor, silicone-free additive is reportedly easy to incorporate. It can provide high versatility that makes it applicable in architectural, protective, can and paper coatings, as well as in adhesives, construction chemicals, and printing inks.

According to the company, BYK-1640 is not only effective at low dosage but is an overall economic defoamer with excellent performance that BYK will be presenting at this year’s ECS alongside other additives for optimized processes.
