APC Welcomes the 'Alliance for the Polyurethanes Industry'

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Polyure-thanes Business Unit of the American Plastics Council (APC) will now be known as the Alliance for the Poly-urethanes Industry (API).

Formerly known as the Polyurethane Division, API unveiled its new name following a decision to leave the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., (SPI) and affiliate with APC. The move was effective September 1, 1999.

“It is with great enthusiasm and expectation that we affiliate with APC,” says Fran W. Lichtenberg, executive director, API. “Our needs have changed during the past decade, and APC provides new resources necessary to represent the polyurethanes industry to the public and government in a manner that will secure the industry’s long-term growth.”

The mission of API is to promote the health and vigor of the polyurethanes industry through research, information dissemination and issues monitoring. API consists of several groups overseen by the Management Committee that focus on product-stewardship issues management, recycling and recovery of polyure-thanes, industry-growth issues management, and industry promotion and communications.

As a business unit of APC, API works closely with APC on all matters of interest to the polyurethanes industry. API will remain a self-sustaining unit while affiliated with APC. For more information, visit the APC Web site at www.plastics.org.
