Dow Automotive has developed a new dashmat construction that enables engineers to block transfer of noise through the firewall while absorbing interior noise behind the instrument panel. Known as ABA construction (absorber-barrier-absorber) the new dashmats are now commercially available. The injection-molded dash insulator helps prevent engine and drivetrain noise from entering the passenger compartment. Molded-in options, such as footrests, electrical wiring channels, fasteners, cowl sides, cowl tops, and sealing features, reduce system cost by eliminating the need for separate components. Polyurethane foam absorbers offer additional acoustical benefits and can be turned via material selection. The two substrates have been adhesively bonded or affixed using mechanical fasteners.
