The monthly roundup from Editor Teresa McPherson.

We love reading about new, innovative or offbeat applications for adhesives and sealants. From duct tape prom dresses to people made of packing tape and left as modern art installations throughout various cities (“Tape Artist,” August 2007), they inspire and amuse us with their originality.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce a new feature to our Web site, “Adhesives in the News.” This section will spotlight various stories in the news about adhesives and sealants that you might not have heard about – from new chemistries and applications to a 70,000-year-old super glue. Check back often for new stories – and submit your own as well. If you hear of an interesting adhesives and sealants story in the news, share it with us. You can find us on Facebook® by searching for “adhesives and sealants,” connect with other industry members on LinkedIn (find me at www.linkedin.com/teresamc), and follow our Twitter feeds at www.twitter.com/ASIMagazine. In addition, you can contact me by sending e-mail to mcphersont@bnpmedia.com.

Correction

In the July/August article “UV/EB Laminating Adhesives Improve Productivity and Reduce CostCost” by Ed Petrie, Table 2 and Figure 1 should have been attributed to M. Trakhtenberg and S. Lapin, “UV/EB Laminating for Packaging Applications,” Northwest Coatings LLC, April 2000.

In addition, the first two sentences after the heading “UV/EB Adhesives” (“In general, UV laminating adhesives are based on the free radical curing of acrylate monomers and oligomers with a photoinitiator. Cationic photoinitiators and epoxy resins may also be used.”) should have been credited to an article by Steve Lapin, “Shine the Light – UV/EB Laminating Adhesives Offer Many Advantages in Packaging Applications,” that appeared on p. 40 of the December 2003 issue of Converting magazine. ASI and the author regret the errors.
