According to “Adhesives and Sealants/Joining and Fastening” from BCC Research, the global market for adhesives and sealants is worth an estimated $41 billion in 2010, but is expected to increase to $52 billion in 2015, for a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5%. The largest segment of the market, waterborne adhesives, is expected to reach $18.8 billion in 2015, after increasing at a CAGR of 5.6% from the estimated 2010 value of $14.3 billion. The second-largest segment, hardening sealants, is projected to increase from an estimated $8.8 billion in 2010 to $10.7 billion in 2015, for a CAGR of 4.1%. Solventborne adhesives, the third-largest segment, is projected to increase from an estimated $6.9 billion in 2010 to $8.5 billion in 2015, for a CAGR of 4.4%.

The report takes a broad look at the increasing use of adhesives in place of various types of fasteners and different methods of joining in increasing numbers of applications, as well as the impact of such newer methods on the economy as a whole. The environmental impact of using various types of adhesives and sealants is also studied.
