ASC ANNOUNCES WATERBORNE ADHESIVES SHORT COURSEThe Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) has announced its Waterborne Adhesives Short Course to be co-located with the 2006 Fall Convention in Nashville, TN, Oct. 15-16, 2006, at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. The course is designed for entry-level chemists, application engineers, sales and marketing professionals, and other technical personnel employed by adhesive companies, raw material and equipment suppliers, and end-users. The Waterborne Short Course will focus on waterborne adhesive markets, raw materials, formulation, production and end-user applications. CAMBRIDGE APPLIED SYSTEMS CHANGES NAME TO CAMBRIDGE VISCOSITYCambridge Applied Systems, Medford, MA, has changed its name to Cambridge Viscosity Inc. DYNEON NAMES NATIONAL SALES MANAGER FOR SPECIALTY ADDITIVESDyneon, a leading fluoropolymer producer based in Oakdale, MN, recently named Janice Bennett as national sales manager for its Specialty Additives division. In her new role, Bennett will be responsible for directing North American Specialty Additives' sales activity in polyethylene processing and field sales development of new applications in adjacent markets, including blow molding and pipe extrusion. Bennett joined 3M in 1996 and most recently served as national sales manager for the company's Specialty Materials Division in Canada after serving as senior account representative in Canada. Her experience also includes technical management positions with Nova Chemicals and Huntsman Corp.

ENGLEHARD TO ACCEPT FINAL TAKEOVER BID BY BASFGerman chemical company BASF AG has reported that U.S. rival Engelhard Corp. has abandoned its resistance to a $5 billion takeover. Engelhard's management decided to back BASF's twice-sweetened offer of $39 a share for the Iselin, NJ-based company and will recommend that its shareholders accept it, the companies said. Including debt, the deal is worth about $5.6 billion. "This is a crucial step toward our goal of acquiring Engelhard," BASF chief executive Juergen Hambrecht said. "We are confident that Engelhard's shareholders will tender their shares."
