Using methods to create a differential release force by changing and modifying RCAs can help guide formulators when choosing systems and avoid potential issues in end-use applications.
Release control additives (RCAs) are used across multiple release coating chemistries and delivery options, from solventless thermal (platinum-catalyzed addition cure), emulsion, solvent, and UV curable technologies.
An EPA-registered sodium benzoate is approved in the U.S. for use as an in-can biocide in waterborne adhesives, coatings, inks, homecare products, raw materials, and other applications.
With the diminishing list of available preservatives, manufacturers need new candidates with exemplary safe use profiles. Recently, sodium benzoate has become increasingly valued outside of its traditional food and beverage applications, moving into cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, home care, and industrial applications.
The combination of centrifugal forces acting in different planes enables an efficient mixing process for Orion Engineered Carbons.

Orion Engineered Carbons is a global supplier of carbon blacks. The long-established Luxembourg-based company, with sites and facilities in the U.S., Germany, and China, produces a wide range of carbon blacks (e.g., high-performance specialty gas blacks, acetylene blacks, furnace blacks, lamp blacks, thermal blacks, and others). These materials are used to tint, color, and enhance the performance of polymers, plastics, paints and coatings, inks and toners, textile fibers, adhesives and sealants, tires, and other mechanical rubber goods.
A new solution has been developed in the form of pre-dispersed masterbatches of core-shell particles in (meth)acrylate monomers. These new liquid toughener dispersions are stable and have been proven to increase the toughness of acrylic materials. The utility of these tougheners has been demonstrated in light-curable thermoset formulations and in 2K acrylic structural adhesives.
Polychloroprene has a long history in the world of adhesives. It has been the primary choice when fast, high-strength, and permanent bonds are needed in variety of applications, from shoe soles to foam bonding. Historically, polychloroprene adhesives have been solvent borne, but environmental and occupational safety reasons have recently caused a shift toward waterborne polychloroprene adhesives. One of the challenges in waterborne polychloroprene dispersion adhesives has been related to the thickening of these high pH systems, as well as the storage stability.
Although powder-based light stabilizers play an important role in modified silane sealants, they can also cause the sealant to become darker or yellowish. A recently developed liquid technology can alleviate that problem.
A proprietary liquid light stabilizer series was designed specifically for modified silane sealants. Their liquid form enables these light stabilizers to be quickly mixed with liquid resin without extra heating, lowering energy costs and reducing the production time between batches while simultaneously improving the sealant’s weather resistance.
