AAMA: Technical Specification Booklet

AAMA 800-05, a technical specification covering performance and test methods for sealants, has been released by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). The revamped 25-page document, first published in 1992 and titled Voluntary Specifications and Test Methods for Sealants, includes the following sealant specifications: Back-Bedding Compounds; Back Bedding Mastic Tapes; Glazing Tapes; Narrow-Joint Seam Sealers; Exterior Perimeter Sealing Compounds; Non-Drying Sealants; and Expanded Cellular Glazing Tapes. This document is available through download, CD or printed copy at a cost of $18.00 for non-members and $9.00 for members.

ADM Tronics: Anti-Static Liquid Additive

ADM Tronics now offers a new additive, Staticon 460, for all aqueous liquids where anti-static properties are required. This versatile product is a highly effective additive for adhesives, inks, coatings and water-based liquids, providing a high level of conductivity of the coated film. Staticon 460 allows for rapid static dissipation on machine, and a high level of conductivity in the residual dried surface of the coated substrate. It can be used, as supplied, as a direct stir-in additive. It also has a tendency to thicken some liquids - a desirable attribute in certain applications.

BAYER MATERIALSCIENCE: Polyester-Polyurethane Dispersion

Bayhydrol® XP 2592 is a cosolvent-free, waterborne polyester-polyurethane dispersion designed for use in the formulation of high-quality coatings. This product emits only a slight amount of VOC and helps to meet the requirement of the VOC Directive without the use of costly and complex waste air purification. These coatings are applied to metal industrial goods such as shock absorbers, axles and agricultural machinery. Bayhydrol XP 2952 was originally developed for air drying and forced drying with atmospheric oxygen driving the crossilinking process. However, the OH functionality of the binder also permits the formulation of baking coatings, with amino resin crosslinking, and two-component coatings, with polyisocyanate crosslinking.

MACTAC: Medical-Grade PSA

For medical applications requiring low-tack adhesion to sensitive skin areas, this company offers its TM9716 pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. TM9716 is a hypoallergenic, medical-grade PSA tape ideal for use on neonatal, pediatric and geriatric patients, as well as other applications requiring contact to sensitive skin. The tape is used in devices such as EKG electrodes, nerve stimulation electrodes and dermal delivery systems. TM9716 is built on a 1/16-inch, closed-cell, 4# polyethylene foam carrier that offers very good conformability and die-cutting properties. It is coated on one side with MACtac's MP-591 adhesive, which has been tested for hypoallergenic properties by an independent laboratory. The adhesive is protected by a 90# white polycoated kraft release liner, which also allows for excellent die-cutting capabilities in the converting process of finished devices.

MALVERN: Particle Size Analyzer

The new Malvern Insitec D is a fully integrated on-line particle size measurement solution designed for use in environments with the potential for dust explosions. Underpinned by Malvern's long-established Insitec particle-sizing technology, the Insitec D boasts both NEC500 and ATEX approval, making it an ideal choice for manufacturers seeking a highly reliable continuous particle size analyzer that complies fully with the ATEX 137 Worker Protection Directive 1992/92/EC. This unit is designed for use in Zone 22 areas - those where a hazardous explosive atmosphere would only be expected to occur fleetingly, or as the result of abnormal operation. With respect to North America, the instrument has an NEC 500 rating for Classes II and III, Divisions 1 and 2.
