OMNOVA: Styrene Butadiene Polymers (5/1/09)

This company recently announced the introduction of its new line of OMNABOND TM self-crosslinking styrene butadiene polymers for the nonwovens, coatings, and construction markets.

OMNABOND polymers offer improved wet and dry tensile properties, filler acceptance, color fastness, caustic resistance, and adhesion to both synthetic and natural fibers as well as lower levels of formaldehyde, which can be important to health and environmental concerns.

The wet tensile strength performance of OMNABOND polymers make them ideal for a number of short- and long-life nonwoven applications including towels, wipes and filtration media, as well as a variety of other specialty uses. This enables for lower binder levels, which makes OMNABOND polymers an ideal substitute for other polymer chemistries, including vinyl acetate ethylene (VAE) and acrylic polymers.

In addition, their accelerated cure rate reduces or eliminates the need for an external catalyst to achieve optimal performance. They also can be combined with external crosslinkers, like melamine and urea formaldehyde (UF) resins for long-life applications, including commercial roofing binders.

OMNABOND self-crosslinking styrene butadiene polymers are available in a range (-25° C to 35° C) of glass transition temperatures. The product line complies with FDA regulations 21 CFR 176.170 and 176.180, for contact with food products.
