PPG Industries’ aerospace business has begun using its chromate-free polysulfide aircraft window sealant on its glass-faced acrylic replacement windshields for Bombardier Challenger 600 Series business jets to provide operators with an environmentally responsible moisture seal.

It is the first commercial application for PR-1425CF sealant, according to Jim Romano, PPG Aerospace global sales director for commercial aftermarket transparencies.

The PPG glass-faced acrylic replacement windshield for Challenger 600, 601, 604 and 605 jets combines the chemical and abrasion resistance of glass with the weight-saving benefits of plastic. The new-design windshield has an expected service life of more than double that of the all-acrylic part it replaces, based on expected service life of similar windshields.

“Benefitting from its unique position as a leader in aerospace sealants and transparencies, PPG Aerospace brings PR-1425CF sealant to market with about 4,000 hours of in-flight test data on different airframe types,” Romano said.

PPG tests also have shown PR-1425CF to be compatible with PR-1425 polysulfide sealant, so the new fast-curing, environmentally responsible sealant can be used to repair a moisture seal made with PR-1425 sealant, he said.

PPG has extended its offer to qualified operators of Challenger 600 Series jets of a $10,000 rebate through the end of August on purchases of the new-design glass-faced acrylic replacement windshield, which lists for $52,000.

Paris Air Show visitors can see the new-design glass-faced windshield for Challenger 600 Series jets and get information about PR-1425CF sealant at PPG Aerospace’s display at Hall 2B, Stand D57. The International Paris Air Show is scheduled for June 15-21 at Le Bourget Exhibition Centre.
