The 3M Foundation has awarded more than $195,000 in Ingenuity Grants to 32 schools in six East Metro Saint Paul districts–Mahtomedi, North St. Paul/Maplewood/Oakdale, Saint Paul, South Washington County, Stillwater and White Bear Lake. The grants are designed to support innovative classroom activities for third through eighth grade math and science teachers. Teachers apply for the grants for specific programs and can receive a maximum of $3,500 for materials.

“We are pleased to support teachers’ efforts to use exciting activities and methods to increase student interest and achievement in math and science,” said Robin Torgerson, vice president, 3M Community Affairs. “They make it fun while providing hands-on activities that allow students to learn by doing.”
This year’s projects range from “WeDo Go-Cart Tricks” to “Amusement Park Physics.” Awards will be presented to the winning teachers on May 13.

This year, the 3M Foundation, through the Ingenuity Grant program, is giving a total of $551,555 in 185 grants in 21 states. In the eight years of the program, 811 grants totaling over $2.2 million have been awarded nationally.
