The head of the International Monetary Fund recently suggested that a global reserve currency "would limit the extent to which the international monetary system as a whole depends on the policies and conditions of a single, albeit dominant, country." Would you support an alternative to the U.S. dollar?
"No, because it works to our benefit to be that single dominant country. This is the benefit that offsetts being a global policeman, the major contributor to the IMF, and having asymmetrical import data structures."
"I don't want other countries pulling us down. We will stand or fall on the strengh of our own merits."
