PSTC Announces 1999 Dahlquist Award

CHICAGO – The Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC) has announced the winner of the the 1999 Carl A. Dahlquist Award. Alfred Crosby, a Ph.D. candidate from Northwestern University’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, had his paper selected from the 19 presented at PSTC’s Tech XXII in Washington, May 5-7, 1999. Crosby studies in the polymer group under Dr. Kenneth Shull. His paper is entitled “Debonding Mechanisms of Pressure Sensitive Adhesives.”

The award recipient is invited to attend the technical seminar the following year as PSTC’s guest and to receive the award. Virendra V. Shah was honored this year as the winner of the 1998 award. He is currently the senior principal development chemist at Air Products & Chemicals Inc. and is responsible for application development of new surfactants and defoamers in waterborne adhesives and coatings. Shah’s paper, “High Performance Wetting Agents Based on Acetylenic Glycol Chemistry,” was selected from more than 18 papers presented at PSTC’s Tech XXI in Orlando, Fla., May 6-8, 1998.

PSTC sponsors an annual technical seminar that addresses the latest technological advances in the pressure sensitive tape industry. Throughout the technical seminar, each presentation and paper is evaluated by a panel of judges on the criteria of topic choice, writing style, presentation, research and supporting documentation. The most technically outstanding paper is named the Carl A. Dahlquist Award winner.
