SOCMA Names Sloan President and CEO

Sloan

The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) has appointed Lawrence (Larry) D. Sloan as president and CEO, effective Feb. 10. Sloan succeeds Joseph Acker, who will retire from SOCMA at the end of December after more than 46 years of combined service to the organization.

Sloan has spent the past five years as president of The Adhesive and Sealant Council, Inc., a Washington, DC-based trade association representing the adhesive and sealant industry, where he was involved in all aspects of management. In addition, his background covers more than 20 years of combined non-profit work experience and past involvement in the chemicals industry, including previous employment at Air Products and Chemicals Inc., Nalco Chemical Co. and the Consumer Specialty Products Association Inc.

A native of Philadelphia, Sloan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in chemical engineering. Later, he attended the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University where he received his Master of Management degree and graduated with honors.
