Our monthly roundup from Editor Teresa McPherson.

As with every issue, months of planning went into this issue. It began with creating the media kit and editorial calendar, which can take place as early as April of each year. There the editorial and sales staff sits down and determines what coverage you’ll see in the next year of issues and what advertiser bonuses we might offer.

We’re excited about the new year and this issue. As a kickoff to 2007, we’re focusing on green chemistry – always a hot topic in the industry. In “Growing Green,” we examine a new crop – lesquerella – that has the potential to displace castor oil imports. In fact, the material may offer a more cost-effective base stock for lubricants and functional fluids than current commercial products.

“Reducing Solvents in Sole Bonding” explains how the shoe industry can benefit from solvent-free manufacturing.

In addition, several features discuss dispensing and curing of adhesives and sealants. “Two-Component Products, One-Component Applicators” looks at a two-component packaging system that is designed to deliver product with a standard caulking gun.

We’re proud to once again feature the PSTC’s Carl A. Dahlquist award-winning paper, presented at the PSTC Tech XXIX conference in 2006. This year’s winner was “New Developmental UV-Curable Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives.”

Our special end-user applications section includes a feature story every supplier to the construction industry should read. “Coverage for Public Nuisance Claims” looks at how a development in product liability law affects any company that manufactures a product that has been incorporated into construction projects.

“Restoring a Landmark” features a case study on how one of Barcelona’s most striking architectural symbols has come to life with the adhesives team at Huntsman Advanced Materials.
