My Junk Pitch

Ask any writer and they’ll tell you: Some days you just don’t have it. The muse never comes, you grasp at random words hoping they’ll somehow come together in a coherent thought (or a series of coherent thoughts, preferably) - you’re just sort of stuck. Like a pitcher who can’t find his fastball, you panic and flail, every pitch missing the strike zone until you give up and just throw out some junk.

Don’t get me wrong: Today’s junk pitch isn’t completely irrelevant, it’s just been done before. By yours truly. Like last week.

I’m talking, of course, of a trip down memory lane triggered by a story I happened to be proofreading about a new series of postage stamps issued by the United States Postal Service depicting the flags of all 50 U.S. states. That story got me thinking about another story ASI published five years ago, which can be found here:

See how that works? What’s new is old, etc. Come to think of it, the above article (and the article scheduled for publication in Feb. 2009) raises a pretty interesting question: Is it even possible to buy the old spit-activated kind of stamp anymore? I mean, talk about a product line that PSAs just totally dominated

Seriously, if anyone has an answer to the old-school stamp question, let me know by posting a comment.
