Resorcinol manufacturer to start up this week.

An idled chemical plant is getting back to business this week. The AP reports that the Western Pennsylvania-based Indspec Chemical Corp. idled in March so the company could reduce inventories as the poor economy hit the automotive industry affecting manufacturers of auto-related products. Now, more than 250 employees are going back to work – good news for them and the city of Petrolia, where the plant is located.

The company is the world's largest and North America's only producer of resorcinol, which is commonly used in manufacturing tires and rubber products; high performance wood adhesives; fire retardant plastic additives; and UV light stabilizers. Resorcinol is also used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of dyes and dyestuffs, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, plasticizers and polyurethane chain extenders.
