3M Releases Patches for Development of Large-Format Devices
As the Android operating system expands as a preferred programming platform for smartphone and tablet-based applications, Android developers are seeking to push the boundaries of this open source platform. 3M recently released Android kernel patches for its multi-touch display and systems products that can allow Android developers to scale their applications for display sizes up to 46 in. and, more importantly, create new multi-user, collaborative applications based on the flexibility and familiarity of the Android operating system. Android multi-touch kernel patches for Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), 4.1-4.3 (Jelly Bean) and 4.4 (KitKat) are now available at the “Driver and Kernel Support” link on the company’s website.
“High-performance, multi-touch Android applications are key to expanding the reach of 3M multi-touch systems and displays,” said Diego Romeu, Global Business Unit manager for the 3M Electronic Solutions Division. “We are excited and looking forward to seeing the next generation of Android-based applications that take advantage of our large-format multi-touch displays and systems.”
