In an attempt to help prevent medical identity theft, a company has introduced ZapStrips, adhesive strips that wrap around current labels on a prescription bottle to erase all of the information formerly printed. The new strips are functional for hiding personal and private information when prescription bottles are thrown away or recycled, as well as during traveling. The 2-in by 5-in strips use ink-erasing technology that is heat-activated by placing them over the previous label and then in a microwave oven on high for 10 seconds. After heating, the content on the original label will disappear.
