ARLINGTON, Va. —PACK EXPO International has spurred economic growth in the packaging-machinery sector through a tremendous increase in quotation activity reported in the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute’s (PMMI) monthly Business Conditions Index (BCI). PMMI’s BCI measurement for sales leads jumped 21.7 points to 75.7, more than 25 points above the midpoint of 50, which indicates expansion.
For the October report, which covers between October 15, 2002, and November 15, 2002, general business conditions increased to 60.4, up 5.8 points. New orders for machinery increased by 6.3 points to 60.9. Quotations for packaging equipment increased a record 21.7 points to 75.7. Shipments increased 1.2 points to move to 53.2.
