Coatings Innovation: PPG Earns Award of Excellence
The business was recognized for coatings used in the restoration of a historic battleship.
PPG Industries’ Protective and Marine Coatings (PMC) business recently received the 2013 Military Coatings Project Award of Excellence from The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) during the SSPC 2013 event held January 14-17 in San Antonio, Texas. The award is given annually by the SSPC to recognize exceptional coatings work performed on U.S. military ships, structures or facilities. PPG earned recognition for the performance of PSX® ONE coating, a one-component acrylic-siloxane coating that was applied to the exterior of the historic USS Iowa battleship.
PSX ONE coating reportedly provides high color and gloss retention in a durable, low-volatile organic compound (VOC), non-isocyanate formulation. It is engineered for inland marine, petrochemical, water, wastewater and other applications, and it can be applied by brush, roller or spraying. The coating offers excellent abrasion resistance, wide cure-temperature flexibility and unique surface tension to minimize rust and dirt-streaking.
