NuSil Technology, a leading formulator and manufacturer of silicone compounds for healthcare, aerospace and photonics, recently announced the expansion and modernization of its R&D and production development departments. This facilities-development effort expands the company's capacity to perform research and development projects for next-generation silicone materials by 100%.

NuSil's corporate headquarters facility in Carpinteria, CA, underwent a major renovation to expand and improve operation, modernize manufacturing, and better service existing and new customers. The renovation expands Marketing, R&D and Product Development groups to meet future needs, and includes new offices, laboratories, mixing and packaging areas, and a white room for clean-room type manufacturing. The power in the building was also doubled to support new advanced manufacturing equipment.

"Not only does this expansion speak to our commitment to deliver the latest innovation and service our existing customers by strengthening our ability to provide custom solutions to our customers more quickly," said Richard Compton, CEO and co-founder for NuSil Technology, "it also better positions us to deliver rapid development for emerging markets such as photonics, electronics, and medical devices where faster materials engineering is crucial."

NuSil has taken a proactive stance in the silicone materials market through first the acquisition of Rhodia Silicones' long-term implantable business last June and now through a 100% R&D and Production Development facilities expansion. Both moves signal NuSil's commitment to strengthen its position as a leading supplier of silicone materials for both existing silicone markets as well as emerging markets.

"NuSil is adaptive. They listen and they accommodate," says Grant Elliott, senior vice president of Quality at Galen Holdings PLC, an international pharmaceutical company based in Craigavon, Northern Ireland. "There is a mutual desire for success, so we overcome problems together. NuSil works with us to develop new formulations on short notice, even for small production runs when we have specific needs for a niche market. Other suppliers just wouldn't take this on."

NuSil credits its continued success to its willingness to develop and manufacture custom silicone product for clients as the need arises. In the development of custom silicone solutions, the company shares research and development responsibilities and works with customers to address all regulatory concerns before a product is sent to market.
