MACtac: Medical Adhesive Foam

The assembly of medical devices such as ostomy mounts, electrosurgical grounding pads and multi-function electrodes used for monitoring, pacing and defibrillation all require adhesive systems that are suitable for use on varying skin types. These adhesives must provide gentle adhesion and conform to body movement. To meet these requirements, MACtac Technical Products designed TM9616, a double-coated foam with a hypoallergenic medical grade adhesive. Designed for use in medical devices where skin contact is possible, this product is a 1/16 in., #4 white polyethylene foam, double-coated with an acrylic-based, hypoallergenic medical grade adhesive. The adhesive is protected by a 70# densified, semi-bleached kraft release liner with a silicone release system on two sides. Foams are recommended for certain applications because they are soft, comformable and can be easily cut to any shape. TM9616 is constructed of cross-linked polyethylene foam and MP-594 medical grade adhesive on both sides, which is formulated for sustained contact with human skin. TM9616 exhibits good adhesion to low energy surfaces and has demonstrated excellent results in peel and shear tests.
