The Harsh Environment Electronics Workshop, to be held July 20-21 at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn in Dearborn, MI, and organized by the SMTA and Auburn University's Center for Advanced Vehicle Electronics, addresses concerns related to harsh environment electronics and the challenges facing the electronics community. It is intended to bring together the needs of end-users with the capabilities of the research community and industrial supply base. In particular, the workshop addresses the challenges of meeting expanding temperature ranges (-55 C to +150 C/+200 C) with increased vibration, higher packaging density, and longer reliability. Next generation requirements for harsh environment electronics are explored from the systems level and potential supply based solutions are presented. In addition, industrial needs for non-automotive vehicle requirements are addressed. Finally, methods for performing accelerated life testing and their correlation with field requirements are explored.
