Initial reports on the use of ultraviolet (UV) and electron beam (EB) technology for pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) began to appear in the late 1960s.
The first experiments with electron beams date from as early as 1920 in the U.S., but the first attempts to cure varnishes with electron beam curing (EBC) were only made in 1960.
The world continues to embrace initiatives fostering more environmentally friendly “green” processes, and the converting industry is not exempt from this pursuit. All aspects of the converting process are being scrutinized, including the need to make the adhesives and sealants component of converting more environmentally friendly.
