Here we present the results of the Feb. 16 ASI E-News survey.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev, is proposing a slimmed-down version of the jobs bill covering only a fraction of the provisions in the Baucus-Grassley bill. Reid's bill would not include extending the deadline to file for federal unemployment insurance, providing a subsidy for Cobra health insurance or extending many tax and health care provisions from last year. However, it would exempt employers from Social Security payroll taxes on new hires who were unemployed, and extend a tax break for businesses that spend money on capital investments like equipment purchases. Are you in favor of the slimmed-down bill?

Yes: 25.806%
No: 74.194%

If this bill passes, would your company hire in the next three months?

Yes: 13.333%
No: 86.667%

If this bill passes, would your company spend money on capital investments in the next three months?

Yes: 16.129%
No: 83.871%

Comments:

“Enough with the various stimuli. The private sector will right itself without government involvement, not with.”

“(Politicians) want to get the economy running again? Put a two-year moratorium on any and all new laws! Uncertainty is what is bogging us all down. We're terrified of new laws, regulations, taxes, etc.”

“Republicans and Democrats who refuse to work together on behalf of the American people need to move on. They are killing America.”

UPDATE: The firedoglake (FDL) blog reports that Harry Reid does not have the votes necessary to start his jobs bill.
