ST. PAUL, Minn. — 3M is celebrating the 20th anniversary of 3M™ VHB™ Tape. The product has succeeded in replacing traditional fastening methods in industries from aerospace to appliances. VHB tape holds up to 9,600 pounds of mirrored ceiling at an international air terminal, bonds aluminum panels to racecar trailers, adheres components of water-resistant video cameras and holds traffic signs together through adverse weather conditions.

To commemorate its anniversary, 3M is holding a VHB Tape 20th Anniversary Design Contest. Anyone who has used VHB tape instead of traditional fastening methods is eligible to enter. Ten winners will be chosen in three different categories. 1. The Oldest Design Still in Service category. The best active products that have used VHB tape the longest will be awarded Lowrance LMS 1600 GPS systems with map software. 2. The Smartest Replacement of Mechanical Fasteners category. Top entries that demonstrate why VHB tape is a better choice than traditional fasteners will win Sony Digital 8 Handycam Camcorders. 3. The Most Innovative Die-Cut Application category. The best entries showing improved products or processes by using die-cut VHB tape will be awarded Sony Digital Cameras.

All prizes use VHB tape in their manufacture. Official entry forms can be obtained by calling 800-362-3550. Entries must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2000. Winners will be announced in June.
