MoreBASF recently launched GlacierTM Frost, a “whiter white” pigment developed with a new generation of titanium dioxide-coated synthetic mica flakes.
Glacier Frost White - designed to help coatings, plastics and printing inks formulators achieve extraordinary luster and brilliance in a range of applications from paints to consumer electronics and cosmetic and personal care packaging - was officially introduced at the European Coatings Show in Nuremberg, Germany, on March 31. It is now commercially available in North America.
With a bluish reflection color, Glacier Frost White creates white to black shades without the yellowish appearance of traditional synthetic mica pearlescent pigments. In addition to a whiter appearance, the new pearl pigment provides reflections of pure white brilliance.
Synthetic mica is absolutely transparent, and is free of natural impurities, such as iron oxides. Because of this, it reportedly offers better luster and brightness than traditional pigments, and outstanding sparkle effects in all shade areas.
